Polskie Towarzystwo Turystyczno-Krajoznawcze w Olsztynie

The Warmia and Mazury Branch of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society in Olsztyn is the oldest tourist organization in the region. It was established on May 18, 1946, initially as a branch of the Polish Touring Society. For 75 years, the institution has been promoting active tourism, hiking, cycling, canoeing, sailing and underwater tourism, and training staff for tourism, with particular emphasis on tourist guides. From an early age, the PTTK Branch also collects books and maps related to sightseeing, especially about the region, but not only. The oldest collections date back to the second half of the 19th century. The PTTK collection at WMBC is a collection of interesting maps presenting mainly our region and the vicinity of Olsztyn. These maps allow you to see how many changes have occurred in the field since their publication, as well as to understand the scope of human activity in the natural environment thanks to the comparison of these maps with the present state. Often these conclusions are surprising and contradict the popular opinion.
